Even, Joe Borg, European fisheries commissioner, has admitted the policy’s failure, and that: “they were questioning even the fundamentals of the current policy.”

Since 10 new countries joined the EU in 2004, UK GDP per capita has risen by over £8,000, German GDP by over £7,000 and French by just under £7,000. This compared to an under £5,000 rise in the USA. (Likely 2007,08)

Since 10 new countries joined the EU in 2004, UK GDP per capita has risen by over £8,000, German GDP by over £7,000 and French by just under £7,000. This compared to an under £5,000 rise in the USA. It is not the whole cause but EU expansion will have gone some of the way to increasing those figures causing UK GDP per capita to be higher than US for the first time since the 19th century.

Only 2% crime increase over two years. Average sentence of 6.2 months. Most sentences under six months. Most successful prison system in terms of prisoners per 100,000. 63 prisoners per 100,000 people. Decreasing number of prisoners.

Netherlands

The legalization of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in the Netherlands appears to have led to some abuses. Surveys of Dutch physicians show that many of the guidelines set up to protect patients have been ignored or modified. About 60% of physicians did not report their activities as required by law and more than half began suggesting euthanasia to patients who were not necessarily terminally ill. About one-fourth did not have the patient’s consent when planning euthanasia even though many of the patients were competent to make such a decision.
